Basics


Sudo – run as administrator

Su – (substitute user) execute commands with privileges of the root account

Pwd – shows the full pathname of the current directory

Ls – lists computer files and can be invoked with other arguments

Ls -l – lists specific contents of directory

Ls -la – another useful command similar to -l but with more details

Ping – in networking, same as Windows a powerful tool for checking connectivity. In Linux we have to manually stop the command, we use Ctrl + C to do that

Traceroute – in networking, another powerful tool for checking how many hops till the destination

History – shows the history of the commands types

Clear – clears the screen

Reboot – reboots the machine

Shutdown now – turns of the machine
