Data Center
A Data Center is a building filled with servers. The building has servers, networking gear, firewalls, load balancers and storage arrays.
IAM
An IAM entity that defines a set of permissions for making AWS service requests, that will be used by AWS services. Some AWS service will need to perform actions on your behalf. To do so, you assign permissions to AWS services with IAM roles
IAM does not require region selection
MFA

MFA = password you know + security device you own

EC2 Basics
EC2 is one of the most popular of AWS’s service
- It mainly consists in the capability of:
- Renting virtual machines (EC2)
- Storing data on virtual drives (EBS)
- Distributing load across machines (ELB)
- Scaling the services using an auto-scaling group (ASG)
EBS
Elastic Block Store Volume is a network drive that we can attach to our instances while they run
EBS allows our instances to persist data even after their termination
They can only be mounted to one instance at a time
They are bound to a specific availability zone
EBS’s are like network USB stick, they are attached through the network
EBS Volume is a network drive, it uses the network to communicate the instance. Because they are a drive they can be detached from an EC2 instance and attached to another one
They are locked to an availability zone
AMI
Amazon Machine Image
They are a customization of an EC2 instance
We add our own software, configuration, operating system, monitoring tool……
If we create our own AMI we will get a faster boot time and configuration time because all the software that we want to install onto our EC2 instance is going to be pre-packaged through the AMI
So we have to build our own AMI’s and they can be built for a specific region and they can be copied across region if we want to use it and leverage the AWS global infrastructure
Amazon Linux 2 is a very popular AMI for AWS and it was provided by AWS themselves
There is a public AMI provided by AWS
But we can create our own AMI therefore we have to maintain them ourselves
Or there is an AWS Marketplace AMI which made by someone else
