In this demonstration, I will demonstrate how to secure the Cisco Switch. Securing the Switch itself, the console and the vty. It is very simple. Choose your prefered Switch in Packet Tracer, I’m using the 2960.

Access the terminal of the Switch. The basics of changing the hostname, etc have not been shown in this demonstration.

You can enable the password for the Switch but enabling the secret is more secure. So I’ve going with enable secret. Enabling secret, secure the Switch itself.

Type line console 0.

Choose a password for it.

Type login.

You can navigate your way around the CLI without having to exit a lot. Next type line vty 0 15.

Choose a password for it.

Type login.

And test it. Exit out of everything. When you see the User Access Verification that means you are successful. Easy!
